Maths

In maths we have been learning about probability. In probability you measure in: Ratios, Percentages and fractions. Probability is another name for chance. If you flip a coin you have a 1/2 chance, 50% chance or 1:2 ratio chance of getting tails. We use these systems to record and measure probability. We use probability in: insurance, the government and shops.

Meme 2

In E.T. Reo (ELLY TROY REO) we have been making memes. Our quote was:
My way of showing this involves a yes/no format.

In this I felt challenged as my first idea failed as my drawings were too small and I was running out of time. So I used pic collage to speed things up. I think it payed off, as it looks nice and I finished within the time restraint.

Athletics day

    • What was the most enjoyable part of athletics for you? Long distance running. Why? I came 4th in the race. I was beaten by Trey, Jamie and Camden. I think I am pretty good at long distance running because I am good at pacing myself.
    • What are you really proud of? Coming 4th in the 800m race. Why? I usually come 12th in long distance running but I have been training hard.
    • What was the most challenging part? High Jump. Why? Because i can't do the scissor kick.
    • Where to now? 2nd in 800m run. What are your goals for next time? To have a good scissor kick. Why do you want to focus on this? Because its embarrassing to be the first to get knocked out of high jump.

Writing

In writing we have been creating adverts me and Alex's ad is about a box that can do anything.
The price is $100,000,000,000,000,000 very affordable, here's our video: I added a mistake on purpose please leave a comment stating what it is.

Bookbuddies

We are doing book buddies again this term and this term I'm with Jamie. We've been having conversations. And my goal is to keep conversations going. My next goal is to be a large part in conversations.

E.T.Reo

This term in E.T.Reo we have been making videos to go with our market day at school in our video I (Toby Rea) am Toby, Alexander Christensen is Alex and Edward is barrack o bama. Our product is wooden model planes.

Sunday 13 November 2016

Prep

In prep we have made model planes for market day:

They are made of plywood. This is a customised spitfire which was sold for $1. We also made jets.  These are not gliders they are models. They can have wheels, tails and cockpits added, as well as symbols.

Art eportfolio post T3.

Description: we have been making self portraits of ourselves for calendar art. My favourite part of the background is of mallard (The fastest steam train ever). The picture shows my favourite thing and some patterns. Here is the slide:

Feedback/Feedforward: i like your background especially the orange and red bit next to your ear. I ant think of anything you need to work on. Chase
Evaluation: Next time I can use more things to fill my picture.

Writing with Elly

In writing with Elly we have had a focus on sentences. The types of sentences are: complex, compound and simple. A simple sentence has one verb and a subject. A compound sentence has two simple sentences and a conjunction that make sense on their own. A complex sentence is the same except it does not make sense on its on own.
image:

Feedback/Feedforward: I think you did well at getting a variety of simple sentences in the slide. You could work on making actual complex sentences and not compound. Abby

Evaluation: I found this task hard as I kept on getting complex sentences that were actually compound sentences. I reckon that the final product is pretty good.

E T Reo eportfolio sample

description: in Poutama each time the Kapa Haka people go to Kapa Haka the people who don't go stay and do E T Reo. We have had three whakatauki's (A whakatauki is a proverb/saying of wisdom) the whakatauki i chose was: He aha te mea nui o te ao? He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata, which translates to: What is the most important thing in the world? The people, The people, The people. I disagree with this as people would not be around without water. The third whakatauki was about: if you fall let it be to a lofty mountain. I made a model mountain.

Images:
Second whakatauki:
Third whakatauki:

Feedback/Feedforward:I think you are quite right Toby because we would never be alive if we did not have any water in the world.I dont have any Feedback. Shrawan

Evaluation: I found this hard as everyone was telling me: "Oh, you need to restart because it's meant to be of you." But the teachers had said to make a character. My one is meant to be of a taniwha.

book buddies

Description: in book buddies is a reading group with Suzanne and we have been reading a story called the name at the end of the ladder. Here is my Bookapedia book buddies slide:

Evaluation: I find book buddies fun as we are researching the history of snakes and ladders.

Mathex

Mathex is a competition where you use your maths knowledge to answer questions to score points. You have a set time to answer. Here are some of the questions get 3/3 and you will be 1/200 of the way to coming 2nd in mathex:

The things we needed were: Teamwork, communicating our ideas, valuing ideas, building on others ideas and thinking creatively. I improved on magic squares at the start they were my worst enemies and at the end I dominated them. Evaluation: My next step will be to have my team come 1st for that we'll have to master all the types of maths.

Excellence

Excellence is helping people, being a good friend and being helpful. I find excellence pretty easy to show. This slide is about excellence:

Feedback/Feedforward: I like the way that you showed me what would you do when somebody is hurt in the playground. Next time you cloud probably have a breaf description and make your description long. Shaiv 😎

Evaluation: I found this slide hard as I didn't have as much time as everyone else.
What I found easy was getting examples of Excellence.

SLC Questions

1) How do you think you did on your SLC? I think I did really good in the SLC because I had 5 minutes to spare. What was the highlight? The highlight of my SLC was being over the standard in writing because I am really bad at writing.
2) What did you do differently to make your SLC stand out? I did the basics behind the posts so they didn't take to long.
3) How will you make your Home Led Conference in Term 3 be awesome? What things might you do to make it awesome? Make mum and dad nachos and drink and desert.

Douglas Park Sports Exchange

DPSE or Douglas Park Sports Exchange is when Douglas Park School comes here or we go see them in Masterton. We won the Tararua challenge flag last year but this year we lost it. There are thirteen games in five sports. They won the most games.  Next year we will be going over to Masterton to see them. I was in the only winning hockey team which was Team B.

Feedback I like how you put a photo on your blog
Feedforward: I think you should add more witting I the description
Angus m >:()
Evaluation: The game was on turf and I expected us to win because training on grass is better than on turf as it is harder. We only had one practice so we weren't ready and most people had to go in a new sport. Next year people should be in the sports they are good at. If we do that we should get the trophy. I think the post is pretty good now. Thanks for the feedback Angus.

Seed2table eportfolio sample

In p4 we had to do Seed2table. Seed2table is where you make homemade meals. The first meal we made was minestrone soup with focaccia bread and for desert chocolate pudding. Other meals included: corn fritters and meatballs. We also did experiments about how plants grow in winter and what to do to make them grow better.

This is our experiment

Feedback/Feedforward: I liked how you told what you guys made at seed2table next time you could say how to grow plants in winter. Kyan

Evaluation: My favourite meal was the minestrone soup. I found the experiment hard because I kept running out of time which shows how bad I am at managing my time.

ET Reo

Every Monday the people who aren't in kapa haka stay at class and learn about Māori fruit and vegetables. I have made a kahoot but ran out time to finish it which is why it only has 3 questions. The questions are pretty hard if you don't have your iPad out so no going on the Māori English dictionary.

Evaluation: I found this hard because Kahoot was playing up at the time so I had to create a new account.

Monday 20 June 2016

"Code Club" eportfolio sample

On Tuesday's me, Patrick and Shaiv go to Code Club where we go practice coding to make games. Some of the games were: clone wars where aliens invade earth ( my one is called bus ball ) and mega maths. Code Club is hard because you have to find things and the guides are in B&W (black and white) and the actual thing is in colour. I like it because some games are fun non-learning games and some are learning games.

Feedback: I like how you explained what you did. Houston
Feed forward: Maybe you can one of your games than just the normal screen for scratch. Houston

Evaluation: I found this blog post hard because I had to have to use someone from code club because someone else would not know about it.

Goal for cross country

My goal for cross country is to at least come fifth. I have been coming second but some people spring up and get in front of you.

I chose this goal because I have been doing extremely well in the practice and I am used to off road conditions, another reason is that this is the last place that you can get into the inter school cross country. I will get this goal because of those two advantages.

Bookapedia term 2

TITLE: skimming and scanning

WALT: create criteria to evaluate sources

A good source: -has a good reputation, be from a trusted expert

-not ask you for private information or have virus warnings

-contain the keywords/information you are looking for

TITLE: Summarising
WALT: Persist to find information to gain a wider perspective
EVIDENCE:

TITLE:  wouldn't want to be a

I wouldn't want to be a World War One pilot because the planes were faulty, slow and non armoured plus the fact that your fuel tank could be shot, you could be frozen and the wings could come of.

Feedback/Feedforward: Good job on informing what you have done in Bookapedia but maybe you could explain what Bookapedia is? Would an alien know what your talking about? Patrick😜

Evaluation: I find Bookapedia hard because sometimes you have to look over lots of websites to get better at finding good websites and you only find one good website.

Maths portfolio

We have been learning about fractions.

This week we have been doing a quiz for maths with fraction questions, I got 5 done. I created this for people to try to solve and to prove it's hard this is the question that tripped up the deputy principal but it was just put in to trip him up. The one below it is a real math question.

I learnt about fractions of sets and fractions of irregular shapes.  The ones below are equivalent fractions.
Feedforward feedback I like the way you made the questions not easy next time you can do more.
Evaluation I found the slide extremely hard to make. I now know how to find fractions in irregular shapes better because I used to do more complex fractions rather than than simpler ones.

You can see more here

Writing

Evaluation: I need to drown out distractions so I am faster

Science eportfolio post

In P4 we have been doing weather experiments. My one was to make fog in a jar. My hypothesis was that the heat in the jar and the ice would form fog in the jar. The first experiment failed. I think this was due to air conduction systems in our house and heat around and in the jar.

click here to watch the video of the experiment that worked.

Feedback/feedforward: I like how you said what you were aiming for but maybe you can say what type of weather you focused on?

Evaluation: I found this hard as I was going to use a certain type of jar but the lid just popped off when under pressure. We had to think how to alter the experiment to make it work.

Graffiti

Description: We were given a task to create a piece of graffiti. Step 1 draw a outline in pencil. Step 2 go over the pencil in vivid. Step 3 create 3D on it. Step 4 add detail. Step 5 make a blob. Step 6 paint it. Final product
Evaluation: i found this extremely challanging.

Camp writing edited

Description: we have to choose a story for an eportfolio sample. I chose this one from camp. I chose this one because it's about haunted rooms that have flames in them. This story really happened late on Wednesday night in the Oregon 7 cabin.

"2 minutes reading only,” said the parent. "What!!" I moaned. "Okay 0 minutes," the parent says engaging in an argument. "What!” I shouted engaging immediately. "Bye," the parent said turning off the light.

Click. "Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! a flame," I said quietly. "Go, to, sleep" someone whispered across the blackness.

I reached out to touch the flame... whew it's only a shadow. Of what? A chill ran up my spine, the closest tree was a long way away.

My heart raced in my chest. My nerves screaming, a ghost flame, a, ghost, flame. Then it appeared. Something glistening, a white dot. I collapsed. I was knocked out, terrified, cold. Nothing would ever wake me, ever...

There were explanations but they don't make sense. Take the one about the dot for example: there are printed dots on the curtains, but these dots would be black??

Some other cabins had funny things happen in them but nothing like cabin 10s sleep walker Louis, he danced the chicken dance then tried to play soccer. Camp can be creepy, scary or very fun. But make sure you don't have a haunted room.

Feedback feedforward:I think u did good with detail but I think u should do more writing in your Description:trey

Evaluation: I think I did good in the writing next time I will follow treys advice.

Camp eportfolio post

Description: We had a really long trip on Tuesday. We had to go to El Rancho camp in Waikanae.
A 6:30am wake up. An 8:30am depart... It would be long and I would definitely meet my enemy, TRAVEL SICKNESS. A couple of minutes later, ah vomiting. When we got there all the boys had to do a discover El Rancho course and sort our cabins.
Finally our first activity, the pool. The other activities include the: waterslide, archery, rifles, and mini golf.
The millions of other things were fun but not as fun as the rafting: a piece of wood, milk bottles and lots of string, simplicity! We had a challenge to see if the boys could beat the girls. We had to make up a raft. The girls capsized theres. Then they lost heaps of milk bottle caps causing it to then sink, just like Titanic. We had to pick up bottle caps from everywhere.

Feedback/feed forward: I like how in the comments you were honest about everything but maybe you could add a bit more writing so we know a bit more about your day. Houston

Whakapapa

When everyone goes to kapa Haka some of us go to E.T. Reo with Elly and Troy. We have been making family trees/whakapapa. I chose to make mine on sheets. The main learning was to know the Māori names for: mum dad grandma and grandad. I found this challenging because it's hard to spell the words.

Nice work maybe next time don't make the pitchers so big.
I like the colours and how you did it is great. Bella

One word eportfolio sample

Description: We have been creating one word art. I chose learning as my word because last year I didn't do enough. This year it's not happening. Step 1 get a word. Step 2 make a draft. Step 3 measure. Step 4 check with a teacher. Step 5 make the final version. Step 6 glue it on. Final product :

Image :

Feedback: I think you did well with your letters because it looks creative
Feedfordward: You should of done your sign a bit smaller
Thanks for the feed back Houston.

Evaluation: It was hard to get the right size. It was easy to get a good block letter. Next time I'll see if I can follow the feed back.

Camp goals

In one week we will be on camp we had to make two goals, mine are: To overcome my fear of guns and to learn what it's like to be away from familiar stuff.

We are going to el rancho camp in waikanai. It used to have a gigantic flying fox but it got struck by lightning. The boys are in oregan, girls in poplar and a mix in willow.

Listening post

Description: Hi today we have been making videos about listening. We chose busy listening and active listening. Busy listening is when you multitask, like listening to a story and taking your shoes of at the same time.

Image:

Big idea: The learning behind this was to create a video about two types of listening. Everyone has a group but some people didn't listen and formed the wrong types of groups!

Feedback/Feedforward: I think that it is good that you where clear and you had active listening and busy listening across the whole screen and it was there for the whole time. I think you should make sure next time you get the whole group in the video so it make it looks like someone else in the video.jake

Evaluation: The video was quick and easy but it was hard to get the post right. I learnt that thirty seconds is hard to fit a video in because it's a short time. Next time I'll try to follow jake's feedback.

Treaty of waitangi eportfolio

The Description: In Poutama we are making a post for Waitangi Day. My group has been using Minecraft to recreate William Hobsons landing. We did not have to build a marae because jack had one already.

Big idea: I learnt that that the treaty has faults and they are the differences of governance and sovereignty. The teachers had set us the task of making something about the treaty. My group was aiming for a multi stage. What do you think we got?

Feedback/Feedforward:I think you did good on your post and you have done a good description. I think you could put a video or something to show what you now about Waitangi Day  .jake

Evaluation: I found that it was challenging to get the build finished in time because the ship had to be ready in three weeks. I did not have Minecraft so my iPad was for research on the Waitangi treaty.

Fifteen cards

In maths we are trying to figure out the combinations for our math challenge, at the moment there are two solutions. They are 6,9,11,12,4,14,7 and 8,7,13,10,12,9

Tuesday 2 February 2016

Waitangi

This weekend is waitangi treaty so in P4 we had to have some waitangi questions. Here are my questions:
Why did the Europeans sign a treaty with the Māori Chiefs but not the aboriginals in Australia?

Did māori intend to sell their land?

What are the differences between the māori and English versions of the treaty?

Monday 1 February 2016

One word

In P4 we are having to find a word. My word is learning. Here is the criteria: Your word needs to:
relate to all areas of your life e.g. school/home/sports/academic/social etc
be something that will challenge you this year
be positive
be something that you can action daily
be an attitude / a way of thinking
I chose this word because last year I got distracted too easily. This year it's not happening at all.
